Sounds like a great idea. I’m a former journalist, former Club Med GO and current Californian starved for news about the world outside of our unfortunate limited view provided by today’s media. Best of luck.

My dream is to spend a few months study the history of Parisian architecture. Will there be any history dashed in?

Shellie Karabell's avatar

Indeed there will be! Check out, for staters, the article about Haussmann in this first issue. We will cover contemporary architecture in future issues, as there is quite a bit of building going on as Paris expands beyond the peripherique. Not all of the architecture is appreciated, however, which makes for lively coverage! Thanks for your interest.

The “solo performances can only go so far” line captures something real — most ex-newsroom Substacks still struggle with what newsrooms used to do quietly: editing, beat continuity, complementary expertise across a city. A collective fixes that without sacrificing individual voices, and it’s a more sustainable model than most launches in this space. One small request, as an English-speaking reader who follows Paris from a business angle: serious corporate and economic reporting is the genuine gap in current English-language Paris coverage — most of what’s out there skews cultural and lifestyle. Hoping “business, politics, and defense” really means business.

Very pleased to see you understand what we're doing! Yes, you will continue to see "business, politics, and defense," most certainly. Please feel free to suggest topics you'd like to see us cover. And keep an eye out for #2 n May 12...Many thank for writing!

After spending some of my misspent youth - in the 1960s and 70s - in Paris, I had pretty much given up

on it; thinking it was just ruined by tourism. Have been there 3 times in the last 2 years and realised that much of it is not ruined at all. And of course it is so beautiful. Also the way the Mayor got control over/ got rid of cars has made a huge difference to the quality of life in the centre.

Really looking forward to this magazine.
