MASKED MEANDERER: Our seasoned traveler ranks premium air travel – not just on seats, food, or service, but on aesthetics. Here are his five favorite airline experiences
I find it all rather curious. The last time I flew 1st Class was with KLM, Beijing back to London. Come meal time, they didn't just have waitresses bringing plates to my seat, they also sent a man wearing a complete chef's outfit who was doing that elaborate knife-sharpening thing you see them do in TV movies. He then sliced a bit of chicken from a platter, as if to suggest he had personally roasted the bird on-board during the flight. I ought to have asked to speak to the gamekeeper who had wrung its neck.
If it had been Air France, I might have expected Louis de Funès to turn up and give me the recipe for his nutmeg potato soufflé in German.
